5th international scientific conference Safety of New Technologies 25.09.2025 in Katowice

GENERAL INFORMATION:

The Scientific and Research Centre for Fire Protection, together with co-organisers, invites you to participate in the 5th international scientific conference Safety of New Technologies.

The conference will be held in a new location — Katowice — as part of the New Mobility Congress at the International Congress Centre in Katowice.

The idea of the conference continues to focus on the safety of new technologies and the improvement of rescue technologies used in the field of fire safety.

The fifth international conference will serve as a summary of previous editions, which primarily focused on the following issues:

  • batteries, electric vehicles, photovoltaic installations – safety research,
  • fire hazards of batteries and energy storage facilities,
  • new technologies in the context of law, safety, and trust,
  • robotics, artificial intelligence – opportunities and threats.

This time, these topics will be discussed on an even broader international level, in Polish and English. The event will be held in a hybrid model – both on-site during the New Mobility Congress at the International Congress Center in Katowice and on-line.

The conference is addressed to manufacturers, designers and installers, officers and civilian employees of the State Fire Service, specialists and appraisers in fire protection, managers, users and owners of building facilities, as well as other people interested in the above-mentioned topics.

Technological progress and increasingly ambitious climate goals adopted at the European and global level influence the dynamic development of renewable energy sources (RES) and electromobility. Electric vehicles, as well as renewable energy sources, increasingly use electrochemical batteries to store energy – the so-called electric batteries. The safe use of electric batteries used in devices, electric vehicles and renewable energy installations requires maintaining their cells in specific conditions, including the required voltage and temperature ranges. Loss of control over the increasing temperature of cells, their excessive discharge, and overcharging are just selected cases that may lead to a fire in the battery and the device it powers.

A battery fire is characterized by high dynamics of development and intense release of smoke and fire gases. The subject of the conference is therefore in line with the market need for a broader discussion on areas requiring attention, improving the fire protection conditions of electric batteries and methods of conducting rescue and fire-fighting operations during incidents involving them. The choice of this topic is also dictated by the need to undertake debates and activities in relation to new technologies – their safety and the possibility of their use, also in fire protection. Fire protection requires adapting it to the threats related to the creation and implementation of new technologies – both completely new ones and evolutions of already known ones. These new technologies and solutions, including artificial intelligence, pose not only security challenges, but also opportunities to use them to improve fire safety.

The speakers at the conference will be: representatives of the State Fire Service, universities, insurance companies, manufacturers, invited specialists and experts, who will raise selected issues in the field of fire safety of new technologies and improvig rescue actions.

Previous editions of the conference in the series were held at the headquarters of CNBOP-PIB, in October 2023, June and November 2024 and May 2025. We encourage you to read the reports on the Organizer’s webstie https://cnbop.pl/en/science/conferences/

Speakers are offered the opportunity to quickly publish their post-conference articles in the scientific journal “Safety & Fire Technology,” published since 2006 by the CNBOP-PIB in Józefów. “Safety & Fire Technology” is a semi-annual open access journal. Each article in the journal is provided with a DOI identifier, indexed on Crossref. The journal is listed in numerous scientific publication databases, including BazTech, Scilit, Open J-Gate, Erih+, and is also on the ministerial list of journals with 40 points assigned to it. Participants interested in publishing their manuscripts are invited to submit their work via the Editorial System, specifying that the submitted work is related to a presentation at the BNT conference. Manuscripts submitted to the system should be prepared in accordance with the editorial office’s technical guidelines, available at: https://sft.cnbop.pl/en/guidelines-for-authors. Each manuscript must receive at least two positive reviews before publication. The deadline for submissions is September 30, 2025.
